Dined at the Coursey Blvd. location for lunch on Friday. We were greeted at the door and given a choice of booth or table! I ordered the Lite Bite - beautifully prepared beef on wheat tortillas with a side of sautéed veggies and guacamole! The food was excellent and the service incredible. This is our "go to" place for Mexican food in Baton Rouge.

Las Palmas, is a good restaurant and I had a good time with my family and friends. The food is good and the price is reasonable. The only issue I had with them was the wait time. You have to watch when you go, as the wait can be 30-45 minutes depending on when you go. The food is good enough that will were satisfied once we were served, but just try to avoid their busy times and you will be fine. The staff was nice and everyone treated me well, just the wait was my only concern.

Good, but not great food. The chips were fresh and good. The salsa was a little above average. I had the beef fajitas. They were good and smoking hot when served, but it was $16 for an order of 1. The server did a great job. She never left me wanting anything. I would definitely go back again.

My family are Las Palmas regulars. For dinner we go to the Hatteras Ave location because it is closer to our house, but we frequent this location for lunch because it is near my husband's workplace. The service is always good and we always get in and out in 45 min or less. I always order the Lite Bite (steak) with no tortillas, although I used to order it with corn tortillas instead of the flour ones. My husband gets the tamales. We rarely eat anything else because we don't eat flour or dairy. They are always very accommodating of our diets. The salsa is a little bland, but after eating at many other Tex-Mex/Mexican locations in BR, this is the one with the best food (other than Superior Grill which is out of the way for us) and certainly the best food to price ratio.

Service was mind bogingly slow...I won't come back here. Food was mediocre. If you are on Coursey Blvd U should go to Casa Lavida. Both times I have been there it has been great...

I never venture here on my own. My friend DARLENE! though has made this place a frequent stomping ground. As a result -- I have enough info to review this location and the chain itself. If you love Mexican food, Las Palmas will not deceive you into believing that you are eating well prepared and well seasoned Mexican. If your Salsa taste like a bowl of tomato and pepper soup, you know, the rest of the meal experience can't be all that grand. The guacamole tastes bland and like its stored in tubs and scooped out with an ice cream scoop. The fajita beef I've had tasted buttery with salt and pepper. Chips meh...I prefer Tostitos Cantinas over their house made chips -- that's sad when you prefer processed food to restaurant food. Bottle beers run about $3.50 and there are no beer specials, although they have Margarita Wednesdays (I guess a special or something). In a nutshell - the taste of Las Palmas is like mass produced manufactured Mexican. Everything I've had tastes like it was given birth from the freezer or from a huge refrigerated vat.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
